Exploring SaaS marketing is like navigating a diverse world. 🚀 From building links to joining startup directories, contributing guest posts, and using paid ads – we'll cover it all! 🌐✨
SEO Essentials
If you're not familiar with terms like "Link Strengths" or "follow/nofollow," feel free to read the following for some background information. However, you can also dive right in to Foundational Backlinks, Startup Directories, Guest Blog Posts, Paid Ads and get started! 🏄What’s the difference between link strength (AS) and Domain Authority?
- -> Link Strengths in this directory are based on Semrushs Authority Score (AS)
- -> It is an estimation of the impact a backlink has on your SEO
- -> They start with 0 (zero impact) and in practice go up to 90 (usually front page of popular sites, but that’s usually only temporary)
- -> It’s not the same as Domain Rank (DR) or Domain Authority (DA): Link Strength also takes into consideration how prominent the page is within the domain. Getting linked on the front page has a lot more strength than in a sub sub page
Metric | Alternative names | Meaning | Semrush range | MOZ range | Ahrefs range |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Domain Authority | Domain Rank DR, PageRank, Domain Trust Flow | The strength of the whole domain or subdomain | 0-100 | 0-100 | 0-100 |
Link Strength | Page Authority, Page Trust Flow | The strength of a particular link on a particular page | 0-100 | 0-100 | 0-10’000 |
What is follow / nofollow? Does it matter for SEO?
- -> nofollow is a rel attribute on the a href html tag
- -> It tells Google that it should not influence the target links SEO ranking
- -> But: it’s not totally unimportant. Google has announced 2019 that they also take hints from nofollow links, although it’s much less strong than follow links
- -> This means that usually it only makes sense to pursue do-follow links
- -> We'he sorted out the nofollow links and added those which we think still make sense into a separate nofollow table.
How long does it take until my SEO traffic goes through the roof?
- -> SEO is a long term game. In my case I reaped the fruits only 4 months after I got the backlinks. SEO experts say that you see satisfying results between 6 and 12 months (source)
- -> It will not go through the roof unless you pair backlinks with writing articles with the keywords you want to rank for (which is a whole other field which we won’t cover here)
- -> Getting backlinks from directories alone is a strong, easy start but to rank really well it won’t be enough. Directories usually have thousands of outgoing links and Google figures out that it’s not so hard to get a link on there. On the other hand, sites in your niche (blogs, community/edu sites) will influence your SEO more strongly but they are harder to get.
